AJHL20 Sunday Night Hockey Preview
SkateZone • Lake Worth, FL
If you’re looking for a quiet Sunday night, you probably picked the wrong rink.
AJHL20 rolls back into SkateZone tonight with a full slate of DC and D League action, and judging by the lineups, there’s a very real chance somebody leaves claiming they “definitely hit the crossbar,” somebody else blames the ice, and at least one goalie questions all of their life decisions by the third period.
Which honestly means things are right on schedule.
The D League kicks off at 4:30 PM with Seal Team Sticks taking on the Mighty Pucks in what feels like a classic clash of styles. Seal Team Sticks bring grit, hustle, and the type of lineup that refuses to quit on pucks. Daniel McHenry, Brandon Yu, Roman Livson, Jared Lazar, David Gunning, and Vlad headline a squad that’s built to grind teams down shift after shift. M Richel gets the start in net and will likely see plenty of rubber early.
Meanwhile, the Mighty Pucks continue to quietly look like one of the sneakiest dangerous teams in the division. Jason Feinberg, Corey Friedman, Keith Sapp, Ray Ziemba, and Michael David give them scoring depth across the board, while Michael Karoleski anchors things between the pipes. The big question mark tonight? Greyson Boehning. Literally. The AJHL injury and attendance rumor mill is undefeated.
Then comes the late-night heavyweight tilt at 8:30 PM as the Ice Crushers square off against the Slammin Salmon.
The Crushers are exactly what the name implies. Heavy pressure, physical hockey, and a lineup that loves to push the pace north-south. Alexis Cancemi, Drew Ringeling, Jordan Rodriguez, Gilbert Lopez, and Jim Hiler lead a team that can absolutely turn a game into controlled chaos in a hurry. Pat Amorelli gets the nod in goal and may need to channel full brick-wall mode against the Salmon attack.
And speaking of offense… the Slammin Salmon might officially have too many guys capable of scoring ugly goals from impossible angles. Cody Bettinger, Kyle Jackson, Cory Yu, Sidney Oser, Dylan Tomasino, Ryan Shipp, and Aly Danick headline a deep roster backed by Tanner Tomasino in net. Add in subs Dr Future, Shaun Gordon, C. Arnold, and Jason MacInnes, and this group suddenly looks like a team nobody wants to chase around late in the game.
Over in the DC League, the Bulldogs and Longwings get things rolling at 5:50 PM before the Instigators and Ice Breakers close things out at 7:10 PM.
The Bulldogs enter tonight with a full bench after adding J. Roth, while the Instigators made a late adjustment sliding Roma into the lineup. The Ice Breakers continue to bring one of the more entertaining groups in the division, while the Longwings will once again attempt to prove that having legs at 5:50 PM on a Sunday is apparently possible.
As always, expect:
Big saves.
Breakaways.
Missed empty nets.
At least one controversial offsides opinion.
And somebody saying “line change” while absolutely not changing.
Puck drops tonight at SkateZone in Lake Worth.
Fun. Friends. Hockey.
