🏆 AJHL BHL CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP
Frozen Iguanas 4 | Puck Buddies 0
April 28, 2026 – SkateZone Rink 3
If you blinked, you probably missed the Puck Buddies offense.
In what was expected to be a tight championship matchup, the Frozen Iguanas had other plans — and they made them clear early. From the opening puck drop, it was less “back-and-forth battle” and more “we’ll take it from here.”
By the time the final buzzer sounded, the Iguanas walked away with a 4–0 shutout and the BHL title, leaving little doubt about who owned the night.
🎯 Business-Like From the Start
The Iguanas wasted no time setting the tone, getting on the board in the first and never looking back. Another early strike in the second period stretched the lead, and by the third… it felt like the result was already written.
Two more goals later, and the only real question left was whether the Buddies would find anything offensively.
They didn’t.
🧱 Defense Wins Championships… and Apparently Shot Counts Too
The stat that says it all:
Puck Buddies — 6 total shots.
That’s not a typo. That’s a full game.
The Iguanas didn’t just defend — they smothered. Clean breakouts, tight gaps, sticks in lanes… the kind of structure that makes a long night even longer.
🔥 By Committee, As Usual
No hero ball here — just a full team effort:
- Kilcourse opened things up (apologies for the miscall on the broadcast)
- Novik added to the lead
- Chris Papa buried one
- Mello Mellas closed the door
And the supporting cast? Doing exactly what championship teams do — moving pucks, making plays, and not forcing anything.
⚠️ Puck Buddies – Just One of Those Nights
Top seed. Strong season. Great group.
But championships have a way of exposing even small cracks, and this one never really gave them a chance to settle in.
One penalty, limited zone time, and before they knew it, they were chasing a game that never slowed down.
🏁 Final Take
There are close championship games…
…and then there are games where one team decides early how it’s going to go.
This was the second one.
The Frozen Iguanas didn’t just win — they controlled every inch of the ice and left no room for debate.
Champions. No asterisk needed.
