NORDIQUES ARE CHAMPIONS! 🏆

Parker Grahe delivers the championship winner in a shootout thriller

It took regulation. It took overtime. And ultimately, it took a shootout to decide the AJHL2.0 C4 Summer Championship.

When it was finally over, the Nordiques were champions, defeating the PB Stars 2–1 in a shootout in a championship game that couldn’t have been much tighter.

The Stars struck first, grabbing a 1–0 lead in the opening period. From there, the championship turned into a defensive battle, with neither team giving much away and the Nordiques searching for the goal that would keep their season alive.

They finally found it in the third.

With the clock winding down, Keith Asplundh delivered the biggest goal of the Nordiques’ season, tying the game 1–1 and forcing the championship beyond regulation.

Overtime couldn’t separate them.

So the championship would be decided in a shootout.

And that’s where Parker Grahe became the championship hero.

The shootout went deep, with both teams getting opportunities to end it. Eventually, Grahe stepped up and buried the deciding goal, setting off the celebration and giving the Nordiques a dramatic 2–1 championship victory.

It was fitting that Grahe and Asplundh delivered the defining moments. Both had been important contributors throughout the season, and when everything came down to one game, they came through when the Nordiques needed them most.

At the other end of the ice, Brad Parker stood tall when the championship was on the line, including in the shootout, where every stop became increasingly important.

The PB Stars deserve plenty of credit as well. They entered the championship having won two of the three regular-season meetings between these teams and once again pushed the Nordiques to the absolute limit. Joey Melillo gave the Stars every opportunity to win it and was recognized as the game’s third star.

But this night belonged to the Nordiques.

Keith Asplundh — 1st Star
Parker Grahe — 2nd Star
Joey Melillo — 3rd Star

After an entire summer season, three previous head-to-head meetings, 44 minutes of championship hockey, overtime and finally a shootout, there was almost nothing separating these two teams.

Except one goal.

Parker Grahe provided it.
